December 2025
Hey Doughnut Lovers,
One of the pleasures of being at the shop early is the freshly baked bagel. About ten minutes out of the oven, the crust has cooled enough to set and the crumb is still fluffy and warm. As you bite into it, the outer layer seems to shatter as you break through with a satisfying and delicate crunch. The interior sinks between your teeth soft and tender, then compressing into a pleasurable chewiness. Occasional grains of salt explode across your palate, bracing at first, then leaving you with a desire for more. One bite leads to another and before you know it, the bagel has disappeared. It is a fleeting experience and one only experienced by the early birds at the shop. Once the bagels have cooled they are perfect for slicing and toasting and slathering. For that brief window, they need nothing more than a bit of time to enjoy them.
It’s December already. As always, time is flying. We have bittersweet news to share. Zack is leaving us to open his own place in Philly. He and his wife Paige will have been hosting pop-ups for Rougarou Baking (@rougaroubaking on social media) for a while now and will be moving into a space in Queen’s Village in the new year. We are sad to see him leave and, at the same time, we are so excited for them. We can’t wait to see what they do next. If you’re ever in the area please go say hello and try something delicious. We wish them every success in this new venture.
We are taking a brief break in January and we are going to use the time to rethink and reboot Curiosity Doughnuts. As many of you you know, there are things that we want to do at the shop that we haven’t been able to make happen yet. Most of our sales are concentrated on the weekends and we are considering focusing our time on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so we can add some dinners and special events.
Alex keeps baker’s hours (there are nights when Amaya is still awake when Alex gets up to go to work) and being open five days a week makes it difficult for him to be a part of events later in the day. If we focus our hours, he can stay up late a couple of days a week and then, hopefully, he can make it up by sleeping in a few days to balance things out. The life of a small business owner is a delicate balancing act and finding ways to do more sometimes means rethinking how to structure the work week.
If anyone is interested in collaborating with us on a dinner or event (it can be almost anything as long as it piques our interest) please reach out via email or Instagram. Or if you have a really cool food-related product and would like to do a pop-up at the shop, let us know. We are already planning ahead for coming year.
Finally let’s talk about holiday hours. We will be open Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, Pre-orders are available here: https://order.toasttab.com/online/curiosity-doughnuts-pa-llc-800-edison-furlong-rd. There are limited doughnut options on the web page because we can’t edit their availability, so if you would like something that isn’t listed, pick surprise me, and then shoot us an email and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. We will be open Tuesday, December 23. We will be closed Christmas Day and January 1-14. We will announce any changes to our hours before we re-open.
As there are holidays throughout the month, we wish everyone a great holiday season! We hope to see you at the shop.
All our best,
A&A&A
